Acupuncture, Complementary Medicine
Onno has a special interest in acupuncture, and was a former President of the Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists, running the body and setting up its training courses. He also holds a degree in human acupuncture.
Acupuncture can be applied to many fields of medicine, and is best known for its use in the control of painful conditions eg arthritis. Integrating and combining such therapies into mainstream medicine can produce very good clinical results, often better than using one method alone.
Complementary medicines can never replace conventional care, and it is very important that an accurate medical diagnosis is made before any treatment is started, be that conventional or otherwise. There is, as always, a balance to be found between Science and Nature, and ultimately, a need to identify whatever works best for you and your pet.
